The centres can offer a huge variety of options including but not limited to swimming lessons, water aerobics, weight rooms, card and/or board games, reading clubs, cooking classes, a library and more!
Joining a community center can help provide an outlet from the mundane cycles of life. They can offer classes for all ages, so the whole family can get involved. If you’re new to a community and trying to build friendships, community centres are great for that. It’s a healthy way to meet people and have fun! (Most locations offer family discounts too!)
If the season in life has now come, where the nest is empty and there is a void of space, this is the time to pick up your interests again. If you’re not sure where to start or what to do, community centres are a great start. Learning something new can feel scary and intimidating, you may think ‘I haven’t changed in 50 years, why bother now’. If you’ve read this far, you’re probably feeling curious, which is great! I had to ask myself, am I happy where I am right now? Do I want to have more of a social life or get out of the house more? Community centers offer that option, usually its very little money to participate in classes (some discount for seniors) and they offer a wide variety of classes at different times and on rotation.
Some places require you to register before accessing locations services. Please contact the locations for their requirements.*
